West Coast Premiere Cast Also Features Ken Barnett, Betsy Brandt, Jeff Fahey, Lesley Ann Warren and James Wolk

09.26.2011– Geoffrey Nauffts’ new play Next Fall makes its West Coast debut at the Geffen Playhouse with original director Sheryl Kaller and a completely new cast featuring the playwright himself in a leading role. Next Fall chronicles the relationship of Adam – portrayed by playwright Nauffts whose acting credits include Broadway productions of A Few Good Men and Caine Mutiny Court Martial, and Luke – played by James Wolk, who is most recognizable for his starring role in television’s Lonestar and the film You Again.

The couple seems like a case of opposites attract – Adam is older, neurotic and an atheist; Luke is impulsive, a struggling actor and a devout Christian. After Luke is involved in a critical accident, family and friends descend upon the couple and these longtime differences collide, forcing opposing views on faith into a stand-off. Luke’s parents, Arlene and Butch, are played by Academy Award nominee Lesley Ann Warren (Victor/Victoria) and actor/activist Jeff Fahey (Lost), respectively. Broadway actor and Geffen alum Ken Barnett portrays Brandon, Luke’s childhood friend; and stage/screen actress Betsy Brandt, most recognized for her role on AMC’s Breaking Bad portrays the role of Holly, the woman who introduced the couple. As timely as it is touching, this must-see play exposes the fundamental truth that we love people both because of – and in spite of – who they are. Next Fall begins in previews at the Geffen Playhouse on October 25, 2011 with an official opening date of November 2.

Next Fall had its world premiere at Naked Angels Theater in New York in 2009 before transferring to the Helen Hayes Theater on Broadway in 2010. This West Coast premiere will allow both playwright and director to delve deeper into this still new work, which was awarded the Outer Critics Circle’s “John Gassner Award” in 2010 for Best New American Play and has been honored with nominations for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play.

Special events during the run of Next Fall include the theater’s special Signature Series options for no additional cost. These evenings include an intellectual, thought-provoking post show Q&A at Talk Back Tuesdays; a scintillating, one-of-a kind after-party at Girls Night Out; a cultural happy hour with Lounge Fridays and complimentary wine tastings during Wine Down Sundays. "Chuck" has always been a magnet for guest stars with serious geek cred, and its fifth and final season is certainly no exception. "Smallville" actor Justin Hartley tweeted on Tuesday that he's having a great time on set, and Zap2it has confirmed that he will be guest starring in the second episode of the season alongside Jeff Fahey, who starred on "Lost" as pilot Frank Lapidus.

Fahey plays Karl Sneijder, who, as the boss of a diamond company with mines in South Africa, has been investigated by the CIA in the past for alleged criminal activity. They've never been able to pin anything on him.

Hartley will star as Wesley Sneijder, Karl's handsome younger brother. A Dartmouth and Oxford-educated anthropologist, Wesley has always done his best to stay out of his brother's business, wanting nothing to do with the "world of espionage and spies."

Of course... he isn't given »

Fahey will play Karl Sneijder, the president and CEO of diamond giant Natal Jewelers. Although he’s been under CIA scrutiny in the past for alleged criminal activity, nothing has ever stuck. The lil’ bro role will be played by, you guessed it, Hartley.

 BLACKTINO

[SXSW Review] Blacktino

Blacktino is nothing short of revolutionary. As a crowdpleaser, it’s so frank about diversity, the notion is reduced to its smallest unit: the individual. Aaron Burns has crafted a rich and lively human comedy blending the dead pan of Napoleon Dynamite (and the better films it influenced, arguably including Juno) and the rich humanity of Mike Leigh.

Austin Marshall is Stefan Daily, an overweight kid whose African American mother is chasing demons unmentioned while his estranged Hispanic father is a Hollywood producer whose latest film is an action adaptation of Citizen Kane, starring Michelle Rodriguez as Citizen Jane.

Stefan’s best friend, Laura (Devyn Ray) is a goth girl –with a valid reason to be, she calls Stefan “Urkle” – after Steve Urkle’s alter ego (there’s another hilarious Family Matters reference a few scenes later). Stefan does not have an easy life: being both bi-racial in a school that has clearly delineated lines he refuses to fit into a box. He blogs and writes plays with the dream of becoming an actor, encouraged by the only real teacher in his school. He and his friends are in all Advanced Placement classes taught by football coaches.

Things are complicated when his sweet nana (Selma Pinkard), who has been raisng him, dies suddenly and he’s left with his mother (Timeca M. Seretti) and her new loser boyfriend (played by Jeff Fahey). His father is but attempting to get back into his son’s life, especially after he’s abandoned by his mother, evicted from their apartment and taken in by the eccentric adopted parents of Laura (played by Danny Trejo and Dana Wheeler-Nicholson).

All of the requisite elements for a high school comedy are present including the gorgeous but bitchy hottest girl in school (Denise Williamson), the jocks, the cool black kids, and the preppy white kids. Everyone plays their role, Stefan and his friends defy stereotype, especially Tiger Sheu’s Matt Miyamoto, who is both Asian and disabled – suffering from multiple sclerosis.

Blacktino is a semi-autobiographical first feature from Aaron Burns, formerly a special effects man; he’s crafted an offbeat masterpiece using Austin-based actors that claim to be mostly recruited off of Craig’s List with established talent in supporting roles. Here’s a film that’s effective first as a film, and not a message movie – it achieves what films starting with a message could never do, simply through it’s unfiltered and unapologetic authenticity. Blacktino announces the arrival of some major new talent.

 Jeff Fahey
biography

From an early age Jeff Fahey has been a seeker of knowledge and new experiences through his travels around the world. Jeff has proven his adaptability and determination to succeed when he began to study at the Gratowski experimental theatre and the Studio Arena in Buffalo, New York. Through experimental theatre Jeff  was introduced to the world of dance where  he undertook the study of classical dance, modern dance and ballet with the likes of Martha Graham School, The Alvin Alley School and then with the Joffrey Ballet. At the Joffrey he was taken under the wing of legendary choreographer Agnes De Mille.

The Joffrey Ballet led to stage roles, beginning with Broadway Productions of Brigadoon, Oklahoma, and West Side Story. Upon returning to New York Jeff was set to star as ‘Gary Corelli’ in the popular daytime soap opera "One Life To Live".  Jeff starred on daytime television in order to finance his own experimental theatre productions on off and off off Broadway.

Jeff Fahey received his feature film break when he was offered the role of ‘Tyree’ in Lawrence Kasdan’s "Silverado" starring opposite Kevin Costner, Brian Denahey, Kevin Klein, and Danny Glover.    From his breakthrough in "Silverado" in 1984, and continuing in an unbroken line to the present day, Jeff Fahey has never experienced a lull in his acting career. Working along side of Robert Mitchum, Brian Denahey, Pierce Brosnan, Clint Eastwood, just to name a few and with directors like Larry Kasdan, Sandra Locke, John McKinsie, Clint Eastwood, Dan Petrie Sr. and Gary Sinse.     Jeff followed his many varied film roles with a hugely successful run on the stage in London in the production of “Orphans” starring opposite Albert Finney and Kevin Anderson.

In 1994, Jeff was offered the opportunity to star in the television series, “The Marshal”, produced by his close friend, and acting colleague, Don Johnson. Jeff has said that more than any other vehicle he had acted in to date, his own personality, values, and feelings become encompassed in the character that was to evolve, and emerge, as Winston MacBride. Unique in its concept, the show starred only Jeff - as he liked to say in interviews at the time - "one man, one hour".

Never one to wait for life to catch up to his aspirations and goals, Jeff now added producing to his resume. Jeff has brought his passion for film to the other side of the camera as a producer on the films “Close Call”, “Choosing Matthais”, “Extra Marital”, “The Underground” and “The Sweeper”.  All of Jeff’s endeavors in producing have been both critical and financial successes.

Jeff Fahey has been involved in world causes for a number of years with a focus on issues in conflict and post conflict regions.  Jeff commuted back and forth from Afghanistan to Hawaii where he became a new series regular on the hit television series LOST as the intrepid pilot ‘Frank Lapidus’, and upon returning from multiple trips to the Western Sahara he starred in the film MACHETTE opposite Robert De Niro.

After over 100 feature films and hundreds of hours of television it has enabled Jeff to have access and friendships with all of the great actors, directors, writers and artisans of the entertainment industry.  The sheer number of projects alone does not only give Jeff Fahey access to the Hollywood elite, but it is the respect that he has garnered through his tireless and professional work ethic.

All of Jeff Fahey’s work on both sides of the camera has enabled him to have a unique                perspective that will ensure that any production will be both professional and profitable.
